What is Diagnosis Imaging?
Diagnosis imaging allows primary care providers like Priscilla Torres, FNP-C, at Torres Family Care to look inside your body for clues about a possible medical condition. Healthcare professionals use a variety of machines and techniques to create pictures of the structures and activities inside your body. The type of imaging that’s used depends upon your symptoms and the part of the body being examined, and may include X-rays, CT scans, nuclear medicine scans, MRI scans, or ultrasounds. Once your imaging results have been reviewed, Ms. Torres can recommend certain treatments or medications. In some cases, she may refer you to a local specialist for follow-up.
What to Expect
Although most imaging tests are easy and painless, some require you to stay for a long time inside a machine. Certain tests involve exposure to small amounts of radiation, while others can be uncomfortable. For some imaging tests, like a colonoscopy, a doctor with special training inserts a tiny camera attached to a long, thin tube into your body. This tool is called a scope. Once inserted, the doctor moves it through a body passageway or opening to see inside a specific organ, like the heart, lungs, stomach, or colon. These procedures often require anesthesia and most are done on an outpatient basis.
